Global Law Lists.org™ is a global lawyers network for individual practitioners who want to be found, trusted and instructed across borders. Membership places your professional profile inside a legal network spanning more than 240 jurisdictions, with credentials that are checked rather than simply claimed.
What an international lawyers association should do for a practitioner
For most of the last century, an international association of lawyers meant a conference circuit, a printed membership roll and a handful of committee seats. Those bodies still serve a purpose, but the way clients find counsel has changed.
A company opening a subsidiary abroad, a family dealing with an estate in two countries, or an in-house team that needs local advice by Friday will usually start with a search, not a phone call to a colleague.
An international lawyers association that is fit for that reality has three jobs. It must make individual lawyers visible beyond their home market. It must give a stranger good reason to trust what a profile says. And it must connect practitioners with one another so that cross-border matters move to the right hands quickly.
Global Law Lists.org™ was founded in 2024 to do those three things. We are headquartered on Norzin Lam in Thimphu, Bhutan, with a European office in Copenhagen, and we operate as a legal network rather than a passive list of names. Every lawyer profile sits alongside the law firms, practice areas and locations it relates to, and every claim that matters to a client can be tested against our verification methodology.
This page is written for individual lawyers: solicitors, barristers, advocates, attorneys and in-house counsel deciding whether to join. If you are responsible for a whole practice, the international law firm association page explains firm-level membership, and our overview of the international legal network describes how the two fit together.
Reasons to join a global lawyers network as an individual
Firm membership raises the profile of an institution. Individual membership does something different: it attaches reputation to the person a client will actually instruct.
Lawyers join Global Law Lists.org™ for four practical reasons.
- i
Visibility across borders
Your profile is discoverable by jurisdiction, city and practice area, so a client searching from another country can locate you by the work you do rather than by the name of your firm.
- ii
Credibility a client can check
Badges are earned through documented review. A visitor does not have to take a biography on faith; the badge level shows what has been confirmed.
- iii
Referral relationships
Cross-border work depends on knowing who to call in another system. Membership places you in the same network as practitioners and firms in over 240 jurisdictions.
- iv
A portable reputation
Your profile belongs to you, not to your employer. If you change firms, move country or set up your own practice, your record of verification moves with you.
Verification and badges: why membership means something
Any network can publish a profile. The value of an international lawyers association lies in what it is prepared to stand behind. On Global Law Lists.org™, each lawyer profile carries one of four badges, and each badge represents a defined level of review. The criteria are published in full in our verification methodology, so members and clients read the same rules.
Badges are not sold as decoration. A paid plan gives you the tools to present your practice well and to request review, but the outcome of a review depends on the evidence you provide and on the standard set out in the methodology.
- 01
Listed
Your profile is published in the legal network and can be found by jurisdiction and practice area.
- 02
Verified
Your identity and professional standing have been checked against the evidence required by our methodology.
- 03
Recommended
A further level of review that signals an established, credible practice to clients comparing counsel.
- 04
Legal Excellence Award
Recognition associated with the Global Law Awards, reserved for work and practices that meet the award criteria.
Lawyer membership plans, priced annually
There are three plans for individual lawyers. Each is billed once a year, and each can be upgraded as your practice and your cross-border work grow. The full feature comparison is on the lawyer membership page.
A professional profile in the global lawyers network, suited to practitioners who want an accurate, discoverable presence and a route into verification.
For lawyers who actively seek international instructions and want a fuller profile that presents their experience, languages and practice areas in depth.
The most complete individual membership, intended for senior practitioners whose work regularly crosses jurisdictions and who want the strongest presentation in the network.
Rankings and awards are editorial, not commercial
Clients rely on rankings because they assume rankings cannot be bought. We agree.
Inclusion in the Global Law Lists.org™ rankings is free, and ranking decisions are made editorially. A membership plan does not purchase a position, and no plan level carries a guaranteed placement.
Keeping membership and rankings separate protects the value of both. Membership gives you a well-presented, verified profile. Rankings and the Global Law Awards reflect an independent editorial view of the work itself.
What this means for members
- You can be ranked without holding a paid plan, and holding one does not change the editorial assessment.
- The Legal Excellence Award badge appears on a profile only where the award criteria are met.
- Clients reading a profile can tell the difference between a membership feature and an editorial recognition.
- Questions about a ranking decision can be raised with the editorial team at [email protected].
Who the association is designed for
Membership is open to qualified legal professionals in any of the jurisdictions we cover. The network is deliberately broad, because cross-border matters rarely respect the boundaries between practice types.
Private practice lawyers
Partners, associates and sole practitioners who want clients and colleagues abroad to find them by expertise and location.
Barristers and advocates
Independent counsel whose reputation is personal and who benefit from a verified profile that is not tied to a single chambers or firm.
Lawyers building cross-border practices
Practitioners advising on international trade, immigration, family, disputes or corporate matters who need reliable counterparts in other systems.
How a global lawyers network supports cross-border work
Most international matters begin with a question a lawyer cannot answer alone: who is the right person to advise on the law of another country?
The traditional answer was a personal contact made at a conference years earlier. That still works when the contact practises in the right field and the right city. Often they do not.
A legal network with more than 140,000 law firms and 175,000 locations changes the starting point. Instead of relying on whoever happens to be in your address book, you can identify practitioners by jurisdiction, city and practice area, and see at a glance what level of verification each profile carries.
The same logic works in reverse. When a lawyer in another jurisdiction needs a counterpart in yours, your verified profile is what they will find. Clear information about your admissions, languages and areas of practice makes it easier for a colleague to refer a client with confidence, and easier for the client to accept that referral.
Membership does not replace professional judgement or the due diligence every lawyer owes a client when instructing foreign counsel. It gives that judgement better material to work with: accurate profiles, published verification criteria and an editorial layer that is kept separate from commercial plans.
How to join an international lawyer association
Joining takes a few minutes; verification takes as long as the evidence requires. We would rather a badge be accurate than fast. The steps below describe what happens from application to a published, verified profile.
Create your account
Apply through the lawyer sign-up and choose the plan that fits your practice.
Build your profile
Add your jurisdictions, admissions, practice areas, languages and office location so clients can find you accurately.
Submit evidence
Provide the documents our methodology asks for to support a Verified badge or higher.
Go live in the network
Your profile is published under the badge level confirmed by review, and you can begin building referral relationships.
If you are unsure which plan suits your practice, start with Essential Access. You can upgrade at any time, and your profile and verification history carry over.
Frequently asked questions about membership
01What is an international lawyers association?
It is a membership body that connects lawyers across national borders. Global Law Lists.org™ fulfils that role as a legal network: members hold verified profiles that clients and other lawyers can find by jurisdiction and practice area, in more than 240 jurisdictions.
02Who can join Global Law Lists.org™ as a lawyer?
Qualified legal professionals in any covered jurisdiction can apply, including solicitors, barristers, advocates, attorneys and sole practitioners. Your badge level depends on the evidence you provide under our verification methodology.
03How much does individual membership cost?
There are three annual plans: Essential Access at $49 per year, Elite Members at $129 per year and Global Prestige at $199 per year. The lawyer membership page compares them in detail.
04Is Global Law Lists.org™ just a list of lawyers?
No. Global Law Lists.org™ is a legal network. Profiles are connected to firms, locations and practice areas, carry badges earned through review, and sit alongside independent editorial rankings and awards.
05What do the Listed, Verified and Recommended badges mean?
Listed means your profile is published in the network. Verified means your identity and professional standing have been checked. Recommended reflects a further level of review. The Legal Excellence Award badge relates to the Global Law Awards. Full criteria are in the verification methodology.
06Does a paid plan improve my ranking?
No. Rankings are free and decided editorially. A membership plan improves how your profile is presented, but it does not buy a ranking position or an award.
07How is individual membership different from law firm membership?
Individual membership attaches a verified reputation to you personally and stays with you if you change firms. Firm membership represents a whole practice and its offices; it is described on the international law firm association page.
08Can I change or upgrade my plan later?
Yes. You can move to a higher plan as your international work grows, and your profile and verification history carry over.
09Where is Global Law Lists.org™ based?
We were founded in 2024 and are headquartered on Norzin Lam in Thimphu, Bhutan, with a European office in Copenhagen.
