Criminal Law Firms in Cebu City, Central Visayas, Philippines (2026)

What does a criminal lawyer do?

Criminal law lawyers advise and represent people and companies who are investigated, arrested or charged with an offence, from traffic and public-order matters to fraud, drug and violent offences. Work runs from police interviews and bail through trial, sentencing and appeals; some lawyers also act for victims where the local system allows it.

How do I choose a criminal lawyer in Cebu City?

1. If you are being questioned or arrested, ask for a lawyer immediately; many countries guarantee access to one before or during interview.
2. Ask how often the lawyer appears in the criminal courts that will hear your case and who will actually attend hearings.
3. Clarify fees per stage, and whether you may qualify for publicly funded legal aid.
4. Check the licence: Search the Supreme Court's Lawyers List (sc.judiciary.gov.ph), which reproduces the Roll of Attorneys with roll number and date. It confirms admission, not current good standing, so also ask for the lawyer's current IBP membership.
