Jeff Bussell is an American attorney leading a U.S.-Czech legal team focused on Czech citizenship by descent, dual citizenship, and related nationality matters. The practice assists individuals and families throughout the United States and around the world in determining whether they have a claim to Czech citizenship and, where a viable path exists, navigating the process from historical research through filing.

Jeff has practiced law since 2010 and is licensed in Maine and Massachusetts. He is also registered to practice as a foreign lawyer in the Czech Republic. He works closely with Czech attorneys and legal professionals based in the Czech Republic, allowing the practice to combine U.S.-side legal analysis and document work with on-the-ground Czech knowledge and support.

Many Czech citizenship matters are not straightforward. Eligibility can turn on events that occurred generations ago: an ancestor's place of birth and domicile, emigration from Czechoslovakia, foreign naturalization, marriage, loss or retention of citizenship, historical legislation, or whether a birth or other civil-status event was properly recorded. The answer is often found only by reconstructing the family's history and applying the nationality law that existed at each relevant point in time.

Jeff and his team handle that work as a legal problem rather than simply an application process. They analyze potential citizenship pathways, identify gaps in the historical record, obtain and review Czech and foreign documents, coordinate archival and civil-registry research, address inconsistencies between records, arrange translations and apostilles where required, and prepare matters for submission to Czech authorities.

Matters can range from relatively clear claims under modern Czech citizenship legislation to complex cases requiring analysis of historical Czechoslovak citizenship and loss-of-citizenship rules.

For families pursuing citizenship together, the team also looks at the family as a whole rather than treating every applicant as an isolated case. Once the relevant ancestral line and legal basis have been established, the practice can coordinate documentation and applications across multiple generations and family members.
